Loons forward Kerr signs NAHL tender
The Minnesota Loons of the NA3HL are pleased to announce that forward Willem Kerr has signed an NAHL tender agreement with the Bismarck Bobcats of the NAHL’s Central Division.
Kerr, 17, just completed his first season of junior hockey in the NA3HL. The Toronto, Ontario native recorded 25 points (10 goals, 15 assists) in 42 games played for the Loons.
“Will is a good skater who is relentless on the puck. There are not many 2006-born players in junior hockey and we are lucky to get him to Bismarck. To put it in perspective, if he had played Minnesota high school hockey this season, he would have been very successful,” Bobcats head scout Niko Kapetanovic said.
The 6’1/185 lbs. forward was also selected to and participated in the 2023 NA3HL Top Prospects Tournament representing the West Division, recording a goal and assist in two games.
Kerr has made two appearances in a North American Hockey League sweater this season and debuted on January 21st with the Minnesota Wilderness. In his second appearance on the 27th he recorded an assist for his 1st NAHL point.
Prior to playing junior hockey, Kerr played for the Toronto Red Wings 16U program in the Greater Toronto Hockey League.
A tender is a contract, of sorts, a player signs announcing his intentions to play for that particular NAHL team and that NAHL team only. Once a player signs a tender with an NAHL team, his playing rights belong to that team within the NAHL and he may not be recruited by any other NAHL team. Each team is granted ten (10) tenders, which include two (2) tenders exclusively used on players from the NA3HL - plus or minus any trades - which became active on November 1st. Tendered players are not eligible for the 2023 NAHL Draft.
