The upcoming hockey season holds the promise of renewal for the NA3HL’s Mid Cities Jr. Stars. After enduring a challenging 2022-23 campaign with a 2-44-1 record, the franchise is ready for a fresh start under the guidance of newly hired Head Coach, Chris Slater. With a wealth of experience from his own playing days in amateur and professional hockey, having Slater behind the bench could be a breath of fresh air for Mid Cities.

The recent struggles on the ice with just 17 wins over the last three seasons, have not derailed the Jr. Stars' determination to reverse their fortunes. While they haven't tasted the Fraser Cup Finals since their inaugural season in 2013-14 (then known as the Silver Cup), the organization is embracing change and looking forward to a brighter future.

Coach Slater, in his new role, has wasted no time in setting the tone for the season ahead. “In a short period of time, we have made positive steps in our recruiting and marketing efforts. The addition of the Jr. Stars Prospects Camps in Michigan and Texas will help create a foundation for the future,” he emphasized.

One of the early signs of progress is the signing of NA3HL Draft Pick Colton Thompson, hailing from Alton, Illinois. Coach Slater also highlighted some returning faces, along with a few newcomers who are expected to play important roles.

“Additional impact players include Jr. Stars veteran forwards Keegan Macarthur, Andrew Kolka, and goaltender Cole Eckert. Roster additions from Michigan include defenseman Nick Temple, forward William Heskett and goaltender Kameron Ragon who are all expected to have strong seasons,” said Slater.

The infusion of fresh talent combined with the experience of returning players paints a hopeful picture for the upcoming season.

Despite a hopeful improvement for the 2023-24 season, Coach Slater's outlook for the year is not solely focused on wins and losses. He stated, "I look forward to sharing my hockey experience this season. Our goal is to have fun developing our skills, competitiveness, and hockey knowledge." His emphasis on player development and fostering a positive, enjoyable environment on and off the ice reflects his inclusive approach to the game.

As the Mid Cities Jr. Stars embark on a new era, they do so with a sense of optimism and determination. The road to redemption may be challenging, but under the leadership of Coach Slater, and a renewed commitment to growth and development, the team is poised to redefine its identity and work towards a brighter future in the NA3HL. The promise of progress is a beacon of hope in Euless, where a new era is set to unfold. Mid Cities kicks off their season in front of their home fans on Friday, September 22nd against the Louisiana Drillers.
