Saturday Scores: Cherokee roll to sweep
Wisconsin 4 @ Breezy Point 3 (OT): Jason Hoehn scored in overtime and the Wisconsin Whalers defeated the hometown Breezy Point North Stars 4-3. Hoehn added to his impressive game by netting the game winner after already assisting on the go ahead goal earlier in the third period. Breezy Point forward Jason Pischke broke the tie just minutes after the Whalers converted. Wisconsin goalie Michal Marcinek was a wall between the pipes for the Whalers stopping 39 shots earning the win. Boxscore
Pittsburgh 8 @ Michigan 1: The Pittsburgh Vengeance came out scoring five straight to start the game and finished off the Michigan Mountain Cats 8-1. Cody Black, who finished with three points on the night, led the Vengeance offense. The special teams were up to par as the Vengeance killed off all four Mountain Cat power plays during the game. The Mountain Cats were stumped on offense by goaltender Chase Stanford, whose only blemish was on a penalty shot goal scored by Mountain Cats forward Zach Collins in the 2nd period. Boxscore
Alexandria 1 @ Granite City 4: Four different players tallied goals for Granite City, which lead to a 4-1 win over the Alexandria Blizzard. In addition to lighting the lamp Lumberjack forwards Zac Sikich and Aaron Storch added assists on the night. Blizzard goaltender Evan Bisek saw plenty of action between the pipes stopping 38 shots in a stellar effort against an offense heavy Granite City squad. Boxscore
Cleveland 1 @ Toledo 2: Tyler Zalecki is continuing his hot scoring pace for the Toledo Cherokee as he tallied the game-winning goal in the 3rd period to spark the Cherokee to a 2-1 win over Cleveland. Zalecki was aided by the goaltending of Clay Horvath stopping 27 Lumberjack shots. Tyler Stockwell started the games scoring on the power play initially giving Cleveland a one-goal lead before Brett Podgorski evened the score with seconds remaining in the 2nd period. Podgorski also assisted on the game-winning goal. Boxscore
Cincinnati 6 @ Peoria 7: The Peoria Mustangs pulled out a close win in a high scoring contest with the visiting Cincinnati Swords, which had seven goals scored in the first period alone. Peoria forward Chance Homerin scored a shorthanded goal in the third period to finally put the Mustangs up for good. The Swords matched the Mustangs high-powered offense and were led by Henry Smith who netted a goal and a pair of assists. Marc Hayton earned the win in net for Peoria turning in a 29 save performance. Boxscore
Chicago 13 @ Battle Creek 3: The Chicago Jr. Bulldogs converted on their power play chances to pick up their first win in the North American 3 Hockey League as they beat the Battle Creek Revolution big 13-3. Chicago forward Vince Bartkowiak was the top point getter for the Bulldogs scoring a goal and dishing out four assists during the game. The power play was a big factor for Chicago as they converted on three of six opportunities on the man advantage. River Ward supplied the offense for Battle Creek tallying a goal and an assist in a losing effort. Boxscore
Flint 6 @ Metro 2: Nicholas Gnagni turned in an impressive performance on the road as he led his Flint Junior Generals to a 6-2 victory over the Metro Jets. Gnagni potted a hat trick and added an assist to bring his point total to four on the night. He was not alone in netting multiple goals for the generals as teammate Conor Durgan also netted two for Flint. The Metro Jets mustered all of their offense during the second period led by Nick Schultz and Josh Belesky, who scored a goal each. With every Metro Jets goal the momentum quickly shifted back to Flint as they answered quickly after each Jets goal. Flint goaltender Nathan Klebe picked up the win with an easy night of only 11 saves. Boxscore
