Another Flint forward gets call to NAHL

The Flint Junior Generals of the North American 3 Hockey League (NA3HL) are pleased to announce that forward Austin Fletcher has been called up to the Rio Grande Valley Killer Bees of the North American Hockey League (NAHL) and will play in this weekend’s games as Rio Grande Valley hosts the Lone Star Brahmas.

Fletcher, 19, is the second Flint player this week to be called up to the NAHL.  Earlier this week, teammate Cam Jorgensen was called up to play for the Michigan Warriors in their 4-3 home win over Port Huron on Wednesday.  Jorgensen recorded an assist in the win.

Back on October 2^nd, Fletcher (5’10/178) was named as the NA3HL Forward of the Month for September. The three-year NA3HL veteran and native of Adrian, Michigan, leads the league with 13 points in just seven games played during the month of September.  He had an assist in this past weekend’s home sweep over Peoria

At the time of his departure to the NAHL, Fletcher was tied for 3^rd in the NA3HL in assists with 11 and was tied for 4^th in points with 14. All of it makes Fletcher a true all-around player who has registered 75 points in 100 career NA3HL regular season games.

In keeping with the ladder of development theme, like Jorgensen, Fletcher played in the NAPHL prior to playing in the NA3HL and now the NAHL. During the 2010-11 season, Fletcher played in 19 NAPHL regular season games for the Detroit Falcons 16U team.

“Austin has been a man on a mission this season and we are excited that he is getting the opportunity with Rio Grande Valley,” said Flint head coach Steve Howard. “He is a veteran player with a lot of tools.  We hope he continues to find success down in Texas. He really understands how to play at the junior level. He has evolved into a player that poses a dangerous offensive threat that also can be physical as well. He worked really hard in the off-season to become an elite player.  He has gotten faster, his hands are better and he has a quicker release.”
