Friday Finals: Flying Aces edge Steel
Flint Junior Generals 2 @ Toledo Cherokee 1 (SO): Both teams scored power play goals in regulation but it was in the shootout when Nicholas Gnagni scored to give the Flint Junior Generals the 2-1 victory. Brett Podgorski started the scoring midway through the 2nd period to give the Cherokee the lead going into the final frame. Flint answered with a Mark McGee power play goal to bring the game to overtime. In the shootout, Flint goaltender Nathan Klebe continued his stellar game stopping three of the five shooters to secure the victory. Klebe finished the game with 34 saves. Boxscore
Alexandria Blizzard 5 @ Breezy Point North Stars 1: The Alexandria Blizzard scored five unanswered goal in the final two periods to beat the hometown North Stars 5-1. Jon Plaszcz opened the scoring for Breezy Point with a power play goal to start the 2nd period but it was all Blizzard after that. Joe Anderson led the Blizzard offense with two goals and Jody Randall converted on a penalty shot in the third to help seal the game. Boxscore
Minnesota Flying Aces 3 @ Twin City Steel 2 (SO): Minnesota goaltender Jaxson Gosnell was sensational in net stopping 44 shots and turning away four of five shooters in the shootout to secure the 3-2 win over Twin City. The Flying Aces jumped out to a two-goal lead after goals from AJ Gullickson and Jake Mullendore but it was Twin City who battled back and Tony Arias scored with just over a minute left to bring the game to a shootout. Bradee Thompson scored on Twin City goalie Thomas Terrance to give the Flying Aces the win. Boxscore
