Saturday Scores: Bulls raise banners in front of record crowd

Twin City Steel 2 @ North Iowa Bulls 7: In their long awaited home opener, the North Iowa Bulls got things started before the game as they raised their National Championship and Silver Cup banners in front of an NA3HL record crowd of 1,637 fans. The North Iowa Bulls then continued their hot start as six Bulls scored goals including two from Kyle Krueger as they took down the visiting Twin City Steel 7-2. North Iowa goaltender Chris Amsden picked up his third win in as many starts in net stopping 22 Steel shots. Both Twin City goals were scored during special teams play as Dylan Lincoln scored shorthanded and Jace Childs tallied on the power play. Boxscore

Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks 7 @ Michigan Mountain Cats 1: Stefan Horgas had his best game of the season turning in a five-point night to lead the Cleveland Jr. Lumberjacks to a 7-1 victory over the Michigan Mountain Cats. Horgas, who only had three points leading up to tonight’s game, added two goals and three assists to the score sheet. The Jr. Lumberjacks broke the game open with a four goal 2nd period to overpower the Mountain Cats. Michigan forward Kade Morrison found the back of the net in the middle frame but Horgas found Nick Balavich less than two minutes later to give Cleveland the four goal lead right back. Joseph Moza had 31 saves in net to claim the victory for Cleveland. Boxscore

Battle Creek Jr. Revolution 3 @ Peoria Mustangs 8: Andrew Scofield scored just 26 seconds into the game and the Peoria Mustangs never looked back as the Mustangs scored 8 goals in their victory over Battle Creek. Scofield, who added another goal and an assist on the night, was one of four Mustangs to score three points. Peoria defenseman Austin Ziakas had his best game of the season tallying a goal and adding two assists to surpass his point total from all of last season. Battle Creek took advantage of the power play as Michael Schmitt and Chris McCausland both scored on the man advantage. Boxscore

Wisconsin Whalers 4 @ Cincinnati Swords 1: The Wisconsin Whalers had goals from four different players striking twice on the power play as they beat the Cincinnati Swords 4-1. The Swords got on the board first as Ryan Sete tallied a goal in his first game apart of Cincinnati. The rest of the offense was all Whalers led by Brett Gates and Zack Johnson, who each tallied two assists on the night. David Volkmann made 15 saves as he picked up his first win of the season. Dallas Jr. Stars 3 @ Sugar Land Imperials 5: The Sugar Land Imperials scored four unanswered goals to overcome and early deficit to earn their first home victory defeating the Dallas Jr. Stars 5-3. Eligah Bordak was a major part of the Sugar Land comeback scoring a hat trick in the contest. The Dallas Jr. Stars got off to a quick start getting all of their offense in the first period with goals from Maxim Ledyankin, Corey Burns and Jake Huspen. The rest of the game Sugar Land goaltender shut the Jr. Stars offense down finishing the night with 21 saves in the win. Avik Bordak continues his point streak with points in the first 6 games of the season picking up two assists. Bordak now has 14 points during that streak. Boxscore

Chicago Jr. Bulldogs 5 @ Topeka Capitals 6 (SO): Matt Kostopoulos scored with 48 seconds remaining to bring the game to extra time but Topeka goaltender Jude Hull stopped Daniel Marotz in the shootout to seal the victory as the Topeka Capitals beat the Chicago Jr. Bulldogs 6-5. The visiting Bulldogs scored three straight goals to end the game including the Kostopoulos game-tying goal late in the third period. It was Topeka forward Tyler Brady, who scored two goals and added an assist in regulation, who gave Hull the chance to win the game when he scored on Bulldogs goaltender Michael Paku in the shootout. Hull, who stopped 29 shots on the night, is undefeated on the season winning all three of his starts. Boxscore

Pittsburgh Vengeance 2 @ Flint Junior Generals 7: The Flint Junior Generals scored seven straight goals to pick up their 12th straight victory as they disposed of the Pittsburgh Vengeance 7-2. The Junior Generals now take a commanding lead on 1st place in the East division going up 8 points on the closest team. Conor Durgan got back to his high scoring ways scoring two goals and adding an assist after not getting on the score sheet in his past two games. Joseph Randazzo got the first goal of the contest giving the Vengeance an early 1-0 lead going into the middle frame but in the 2nd is when the Junior Generals struck for five of their seven markers. Nathan Klebe stopped 24 shots to pick up his sixth victory on the year and maintain his sparkling .98 GAA on the year. Boxscore

Alexandria Blizzard 6 @ Granite City Lumberjacks 3: Alexandria Blizzard rode the four-goal night from forward Joe Anderson to knock off division rival Granite City 6-3. Anderson, who started the year with the Brookings Blizzard of the NAHL, has now scored 16 points in 6 games since being traded to Alexandria. Granite City looking for their 11th straight victory but got off to a slow start as they let up three Blizzard goals in the first period. Travis Kothenbeutel and Brett Love scored for the Lumberjacks to bring it within two but it was Anderson who answered back scoring two unassisted tallies in a mere 12 seconds to close the game for Alexandria. Metro Jets 3 @ St. Louis Jr. Blues 9: Alexander Carlsson scored a pair of goals and Billy Hindle picked up his fifth win of the year as the St. Louis Jr. Blues scored 9 goals in a victory over the visiting Metro Jets. Five Jr. Blues had multi point games led by Kyle Meeh, who scored a goal and added two assists. The Jr. Blues jumped on the Jets early breaking out for five goals in the first period. Metro Jets forward Kevin Shand scored a pair of power play goals in the second period both assisted by Vincent Scognagmillo, who was playing in his first game for the Metro Jets. Boxscore
